Well, what a cracking start to the 2015-16 wedding season here on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula.  Spring has (for the most part) been awesome so far, and my first happy couple for the year were the awesome Mel and Dave, who got hitched at the beautiful and aptly named The Views Cape Schanck resort.  Barring that awkward (and ice-breaking) moment when you mix up your spouse-to-be’s name during the vows (don’t worry Mel, you’re in good company, Princess Diana did it at her wedding too!), this wedding was pure perfection, and fun, fun, fun!

Jarrod & Zoe – Keeping it Real

OK, so here was my brief from Jarrod & Zoe… “Our wedding is going to be super relaxed, no cars, no florists, no hair and makeup, no bridal party, we’re arriving together, we’re walking from the ceremony to reception, it’s like the chillest wedding ever!”  ”Well thank God they want a photographer,” I thought to myself “because this sounds like such an awesome way to finish off my wedding season!”  So on the most gorgeous Autumn afternoon you could possibly imagine, Zoe & Jarrod tied the knot under the prettiest tree in beautiful St Vincents Gardens not far from their home in Port Melbourne, before traipsing along Vic Ave to their reception venue at The Vincent.  It was purely about the love, and such a joy to capture in a very honest and gorgeous way.  St Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens WeddingSt Vincents Gardens Wedding

Sarah & Matt – Cloudy With A Chance of Awesome!

So a big challenge for brides & grooms choosing a wedding date 6 months in advance is “What’s the weather going to be like?”  - Especially in Melbourne with it’s proverbial ‘Four Seasons in One Day’, it’s a really stressful call.  So imagine if your actual occupation was a Long-Term Weather Forcaster….whoo pressure!  So this was the situation that Sarah found herself in when planning her wedding to Matt last year.  Jan / Feb?  Too hot!  March?  Could be lovely, could have a cold snap…  really it was always going to be a roll of the dice in this temperamental city!  So to have chosen the perfect day for their garden wedding must mean that Sarah is damn good at her job.  Slightly cloudy, perfect temperature – not too hot, not too cold…Goldilocks herself would be very happy with that outcome.

And the wedding itself… I’m not one to play favourites, but this would have to be in my top five weddings EVER.  Think ‘picnic / garden party, and “Oh, let’s have a little wedding ceremony in the middle of it!”.  Giant Jenga, boules, croquet, Pims on tap, it was relaxed and fun, and so ‘real’.  As the afternoon turned to evening, the party moved on to the nearby Friends of Mine cafe in Richmond for drinks, dinner, and dancing.  Did I say dancing???  Considering these guys met at a swing dancing class there was the most amazing dancefloor action I have ever seen!  Swirling skirts, fancy footwork, and a divine cake made entirely by the bride herself.  This is why I love my job!

Some weddings are so full of personality and fun that they make me do a little happy dance and Emily and Rob’s was definitely one of those occasions.  From Emily’s gorgeous orange-skirted dress, to the bridesmaid’s rainbow hued maxi-skirts (which just happened to match my new logo – coincidence???), to the green Kombi van used to transport the bridal party, this was a wedding that bucked tradition in the most beautiful way.  The day itself was super hot – 38 degrees and humid – but Rob and Emily were such great sports as we headed from the church to the place that they first met… the famous  Tan running track.  So on-board with my ideas they even agreed to change into their daggy old running shoes and do a few sprints before we headed off to their beautiful beach-themed reception at the West Beach Pavilion, St Kilda!  Love these guys!

My “Why”…

Ash & Christina 0260

Today I serendipitously ran into a ‘groom from weddings past’, a lovely guy, Ash, who married the equally lovely Christina about 3 years ago. We had a chat about life and work, and he said to me “My grandma passed away since the wedding, and I have to tell you that the photo that you took of me chatting to my Grandma is one of the most precious things I have. It just sums up the relationship we had.” Had I not previously known my “Why” regarding my chosen profession, this comment just cemented it. It was just the best compliment I anyone could give.
